Based on the novels by Andrea Camilleri, is a great prequel of the lucky series of “The Inspector Montalbano” - 6 episodes of 100’ with Michele Riondino in the leading role and directed by Gianluca Tavarelli. This series is set in the early Nineties, describing how the world of Montalbano grew into the one we know: not only Montalbano’s passage to manhood, but the raw inspector demonstrating his ability in solving complicated cases in which the audience will find the atmospheres of the investigations to which they are accustomed. Aired on RAI UNO prime time on Mondays from 23th of February to 29th March 2012, the episodes achieved extraordinary share percentages: 28% of share almost to of share almost touching 8.000.000 of audience at its highest peak. Salvo Montalbano is now one of us. We have now been following his adventures for ages, we participate to his investigations as if we were actually part of the Vigàta police station. We think we know all there is to know about him, like a member of our own families. But it isn’t so. Montalbano wasn’t always responsible for the Vigàta police station. He didn’t always live in the marvellous sea side house in Marinella. He wasn’t always Augello’s brotherly friend, also, he wasn’t always with Livia. This series, set in the early nineties, tells us how Montalbano’s world as we know was born. How it became what it is today. From his first assignment in the mountains (Mascalippa) to his transfer to Vigàta where Montalbano had already lived as a boy. We will explore the complex relationship with his father, the early stages of his friendship with Augello, we’ll witness the moment he met Livia (and the consequent love at first sight). Of course last but never least is the interesting relation with Catarella, the sweet and clumsy agent that always confuses names. Their relationship represents a back bone of Camilleri’s narrative. But how did Montalbano and Catartella come to be that tight? And what ,makes Montalbano all that patient to the operator’s faux pas? This 6 films will try to answer these and many more questions, to help the audience better understand their loved inspector.
